Feather and down blends
Feather-rich cushions conform readily and create a relaxed appearance. They also migrate and compress, so channels, wraps and routine plumping matter. People with allergies or ethical concerns may prefer synthetic alternatives.
Hybrid cushions
A foam core wrapped in feather, fiber or down-alternative material aims to combine support with a soft first contact. The wrap still needs rotation, while the core helps the cushion recover its main shape.
Match maintenance to expectations
If crisp lines matter, choose a construction designed to recover with limited attention. If a casual, lived-in surface is welcome, a softer wrap may suit. Ask whether covers unzip and whether inserts can be ordered separately.
Test the edge and center
Sit near the front edge, then settle back. Check whether the cushion bottoms out, pushes you forward or leaves a hard rail beneath the thighs. Repeat after several minutes rather than relying on the first touch.
